Wok-in-Progress
It has been three years since my stroke. I lost memory, couldn't speak, I forgot who I was. But I never forgot my love of the food that I grew up with. For me, food has always contained a wealth of memory. If we are what we eat, then the possibilities of memories contained in food were the key to rebuilding my life. Cooking was the start of my work-in-progress toward recovery, the making of a new self. - Paul Kwan
A WOK-IN PROGRESS chronicles the intertwined stories of Paul Kwan, a Chinese filmmaker and gourmand who came to the United States from Vietnam 25 years ago, and his sister Diana, a recent immigrant from Hong Kong and struggling entrepreneur. This personal documentary is the third in a trilogy that probes the immigrant's experience through the unlikely perspective of food, providing a language both to mourn cultural loss and to retrieve cultural memory.
