Maria Clara's credits include Spike Lee’s “Summer of Sam” and “Bamboozled”, “Disappearing Acts”, the Academy Award winning Election and advertising production for Saatchi & Saatchi. A native of Rio de Janeiro, she was a first assistant director at age seventeen working on various films and television projects in Brazil. She has worked with Show more Fernando Meirelles, the director of City of God and his production company O2 Productions. Currently, Ms. Clara is in Rio de Janeiro directing commercials and she will soon be directing a short by Paulo Lins, the writer of "City of God". Ms. Clara is a graduate of New York University’s Film Program. Show less

The Film

The Favela Street Girls, a group of girls from the slums of Rio de Janeiro, are chosen to represent Brazil during the Street Child World Cup 2014. These girls, who have faced crime, violence, and social problems throughout their young lives, work hard to become a winning football team. In the midst of brutal hardship, the Favela Street Girls strive for their dreams as they prepare for the tournament that will change their lives forever.
